Headed by Ms. Rana Khan, the Academic Coordinator of the Foundation Unit at Algonquin College, TEFL Kuwait, an IATEFL Associate (International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language), is a non-profit organization of teachers of English as a foreign language that continuously strives to improve the teaching and learning of English in Kuwait and the region. In addition to providing expertise, resources, and a voice on issues related to English language teaching, it is committed to advancing the profession through collaboration, cutting-edge research, and peer-to-peer knowledge exchange. The goal of the organization is to encourage professional development, participation, and leadership at the local, national, and international levels so as to promote intercultural understanding and effective cross-cultural communication.
The Second International Conference on language, Education, Business and Technology was held on Friday and Saturday 10-11/02/2023 at the premises of AUK and was attended by many dignitaries including the President of AUK, Prof. Rawda Awwad, the President of KCST, Prof. Khaled Albegain, the Vice President of Algonquin College, Prof. Amany Alhajjy, the Chair of the English Department at KCST, Ms. Ruba Najia, Vice President of the College of Aviation technology in Kuwait, Ms. Abeer Aljeeran, Chair of the English Foundation Unit at Box-Hill College, Ms. Sosil Somokian, among others. It hosted a group of professional and world-renowned plenary speakers such as Dr. Thanassis Rikakis, former provost of Virginia Tech, Sara Akbar, CEO of Kuwait Energy, Dr. Arezou Harraf, Vice Chair of the American Chamber of Commerce, Caroline Allums the Natterhub’s Co-Founder among many others. The conference offered members an educational forum to network and communicate by sharing insights, discussing trends and issues, hosting workshops, and building connections with other professionals within specialized fields. It was attended, organized, and promoted by the Conference Chair, Dr. Amal Alleithy, also working as the Chair of the English Department at IUK. Together with her efforts to organize the conference as part of her duties in the TEFL Kuwait Organization, she also gave an informative session titled “Mapping CLOs in OBE-Syllabi” to get educators informed about the outcome-based education philosophy adopted by IUK.
